Junior Season Report 2007
The 2007 season has now come to an end for the rest of our teams, now it is time to reflect and rejoice New Brighton success As we end another enjoyable season I would like to take the opportunity to thank the coaches and supporters who have made this game enjoyable to play and to watch. I am sure you will all be reflecting, with a sense of satisfaction on another season completed successfully. In our modern sporting life it is scary to think that the New Brighton Junior Club is already planning for 2008 season. Preparing trust applications, checking databases, planning important 2008 dates, considering players for higher grades, finding coaches and even enticing players from other clubs. Congratulations to all our grade winners. It was fantastic seeing the satisfaction expressed by many of our New Brighton Kids when acknowledging their teams that were being crowned divisional winners. This year the club was put into a situation where we had a reasonably new committee without a lot of seasoned campaigners and I believe we have done a great job. In fact we have tried very hard to bring some ownership of our club back to the club. All our coaches were regularly contacted and the committee made a strong point of watching as many games as we could each Saturday. All junior results were on the website weekly with game reports from some of the coaches also posted on the website. The committee introduce the junior clothing range that I believe will make the club even stronger in years to come as our juniors are wearing club clothing around Christchurch with pride. The committee ran a club day in August where we tried to show case our rising stars with a fun day at the clubrooms. The weather gods didn’t play their part this year but the idea has been set and I believe in years to come it will be one of the highlights of the season. This year the midgets were given a graduation day were they could display their talents in front of the whole club. The look on their faces when they left the changing rooms through the crowd of proud parents will stay with me for a long time. It has been a part of this committee thinking this season that our coaches play a vital role within our clubs structure and I believe we have done an excellent job in helping out our coaches with every requirement they have asked of us. Clearly we will never satisfy the demands of everyone involved in our club but I believe that we have done as well as we could with our limited experience and numbers on our junior committee. I would personally like to thank my 2007 committee. Lyndal Sloan who has been a most worthy partner in crime this season. Sometimes during this season I think I have talked more to Lyndal than my own wife, such is the life of a busy junior football club. Nadene Evans. Without Nadene to keep the club finances going we wouldn’t have a football club. She has done a great job over the season and is often overlooked but believe me I am very thankful to having someone like Nadene on the team. Finally to Rachael Barrie who I guess is the newbie on the team. Thank you for all your help this year. Rachael did a great job with the chocolates this year and without doubt it was the most successful fund raising effort done at New Brighton for some time. Thank you to Steve and Tracey Ager who often came to our rescue with all sorts of help and assistance this season. Steve was very instrumental in some of our fresh thinking this season and as always it is important that there is harmony between the junior and senior clubs. To Ben McNabb who had to put up with me phoning him during all hours with requirements for the website. Without Ben none of our ideas would have been possible. Finally to the Kids of New Brighton Junior Football Club. You have made me proud of all of you this season with your conduct on and off the field, and your attitudes towards our great game. Thank you all. Bruce Hunter New Brighton Club President 2007
Midgets 2007 Midgets this season kicked off to a great start with around 30 little ones aged between 4 years to 6 years. This year we also had a waiting list as we decided 30 was a reasonable number of children to manage, as it was we ended up dividing the 4 year olds and 5 year olds into two separate training squads, as they were both at very different levels. Soccer for Midgets is about having fun and keeping the training fun and interesting as there attention spans don't last long, with the help of the Mainland Soccer Coaching day I was able to implement some of the basic skills and games for the little ones. We spent most of the season working on passing, dribbling, goal shooting and controlling the ball, it was fantastic to see the results nearing the end of the season. We had fantastic weather not having to experience a Sunday training in the hall !!!!!! Thank you to all the 2007 Midgets for a wonderful season is looking forward to catching up with you next season! (Thanks to my wife Bec, Dave and Lou, I couldn't have done it without you!) Simon 7th Starfish The 7th grade Starfish have had a great year with the players & parents alike enjoying the weekly challenge. Each player has shown fantastic improvement throughout the season & with more skills comes a greater pleasure from playing. By the end of the year the players were as keen if not keener that the start of the year, fantastic!!! Thanks to all the parents who take the time & effort to make it all fit together & thanks to the club for their support throughout the year. Our team lacked for nothing in the effort area & the club can take great pride in the manner which they conducted themselves both on & off the pitch. Well done team!!! See you all again next year for more of the same fun. Greg 7th Penguins This year the Penguins were coach by the girls from the woman div2 side. Alie(senior coach) and Silvia (assistant senior coach)and with help from Rochelle(Junior senior assistant coach). The team certainly started very well for the first half of their season having many wins and draws under their belts. The results during the second half of the season wasn’t as good but they still enjoyed many competitive matches. The team were nickname during the season as the “Mighty Penguins” and they certainly live up to that name also they very much enjoyed themselves playing football every Saturday morning. Look forward to seeing all the kids back in 2008. Keep up the training over the summer and let’s look forward the becoming 8th graders next year. 7th Stingrays This season has been a good one fir the 7th Grade Stingrays soccer team. The young players have improved in their understanding and skills of the game. We have had a few memorable games including winning against the Rangers who were unbeaten until their second to last game. The Stingrays won more games than they lost during the 2007 season. Winning their last three games in a row shows how much they have improved over the year. Chino Barret-Lovie showed most improvement over the season with his ball skills and ability to kick the ball over long distances. Vincent Bolt was very determined and never gave up. Alex Donovan is a very fast and competitive player. Sven Hagedorn is a great defender and a good tackler Grace Haughey our only girl in the team always tried hard and her effort was commendable. Maguire Kitchen has great ball skills and good at dribbling the ball on the field. Max Connelly is a good tackler and always in the action. Tom McDonald is a good is a good finisher and the top goal scorer. Together they all made a great team. Special thanks to all the parents and support given to the Stingrays during the season. Look forward to seeing you all again next season. Glynn McDonald. 7th Blasters The Blasters had a great season. We started slowly this year with 5 loses in a row, but the team didn’t give up and came back strong in the second half of the season. Of the 17 games we played, we lost 7 drew 4 and won 6, scoring 32 great goals along the way. Our draws against the NB Dulkas, Ferrymead Bays Bulls and the NB Stingrays were amongst the best games the team played in with intensity of a top grade game. Thanks to the team of Bailey Counihan, Cole Barrie, Hamiora Kelan, Lara Cunningham, Lewis Huntley, Oliver Clark and Samuel Bell for the fantastic attitudes on & off the field. You have all been great to coach for the second time as 5 of this team came through from the midgets last year. Last but not least behind every great kid are great parents and the kids good attitude comes from you. Thank you for not only supporting your own child but the whole team. Training nights and games are much more fun with your participation. Thanks again for a great season. Dave Barrie. 7th Dulkas We had a very enjoyable and quite a successful season. After a very good start we finished up unluckily losing our last three matches all by one goal. We ended up winning 6, drawing 6 and losing 5 matches. Our team which consisted of Dylan, Zac, Jamie, Lily, Todd, Nicholas, Cameron and super sub Joel were an absolute pleasure to coach. They all show a lot of promise and I'm sure if they carry on the way they're going will all do well in the sport. It was a testament to how well they played as a team that they all managed to score at least one goal during the season. Thanks to the parents who religiously turned up each week and special thanks to Simon and Mike who so ably filled in when I was unavailable. Also many thanks to Dave Barrie who took Wednesday night training. I'd just like to wish everybody an enjoyable summer and look forward to seeing you all again next season Paul Schaapveld 8th Dolphins Wow what a year. The team has played awesome this season with 13 wins, 3 lose and 3 draws. Our hardest game was against the Ferrymead Man U side which was so intense it was brilliant. This year’s focus was on supporting our team mates and backing each other to make the right play. This has worked out great in achieving some tough wins and in 6 games not even conceding a goal. The positive attitude of the players in thinking that every game was a winning proposition has been rewarded. Mark and I have really enjoyed coaching the Dolphins and hope next year is as much fun as this year was. Thanks so much to all the Parents support and for backing the coaching staff all season. We can all be proud of the Dolphins and as a coach and dad I’m proud to be associated with this team and the New Brighton Club. Cheers have a great Christmas and see you all back next year. Nigel Jayes 8th Thunderbirds This was the second season together for the Thunderbird team and it really showed with the improvement in results of how well the team had progressed during the two years together. Half way through the season they had already exceeded their number of wins from the previous year and with the end result of 8 wins 2 draws and 6 losses all 7 members of the team can be very proud of the year’s achievements as I the coach and the very supportive and helpful parents have been. In the process the team scored 37 goals and conceded 27 and the supporters on the sidelines have seen a great growth in the teams play and team work with their effort never waning even when faced with teams of much larger squads or when they found themselves trailing in games. Indeed even though they scored 5 goals in 3 different games their best result from a coaches perspective was a 4-1 loss to the strongest team in their grade when they trailed by 4 nil at the break yet showed great determination and spirit to win the second half. I know that if the Thunderbirds were to meet the same team again they would continue that second half performance and level the ledger against them and that when they progress onto the bigger fields and goals next year their results are going to be improved again! Well done Thunderbird players. 2007 Thunderbird Players: Henry Beeby-Zeier, a hard tackling defender, not scared of putting his body on the line Molly Burglass-Clapham, plays hard, well above her statue, not scared of the knocks Matthew Comber, one of the engines of the team, works hard over the whole field and has a powerful shot and great cross Xavier Friend, another workaholic team member on either attack or defence, has a great long shot Keegan Harris, the teams’ lethal left footer, supports the attack well and equally hard on defence Charlotte Merkin, has an eye for the net and gets into position to score quickly Ashleigh Tomlinson, a tough opponent that all opposition fear to play against, has a nose for the goal also Goal scorers: Matthew 19, Charlotte 7, Xavier 7, Ashleigh 2, Molly 2, with many more close shaves and hit posts! Can't wait for the bigger goals, see you next year, Craig Tomlinson. 5 4 3 2 1 Thunderbirds are gone till next year! 8th Seals Our courageous team was made up of girls and boys who had never played soccer before and a coach who knew nothing about the game. We headed into our first season with a game against one of the harder teams in our division, a challenge for any team and although we lost our team showed great sportsmanship and had lots of fun. Our season had many ups and downs with many of our games being very close, the score could have gone either way on the day. Our team was just getting the idea of how things were to be done when the season came to an end. Our last games were again against some tough teams and one game my team went onto the field without subs and played five aside all game, due to sickness and broken limbs for some of the team, although those players still supported their fellow players. By this time we were all very tired and the weather although fine very cold but we had proven to ourselves that although we lost we were great sports and came together as a team very well. Good luck to those players going to continue next year I hope you enjoy your next season as well as you enjoyed this year. Thank you. Carolyn Roos (Coach) 9th Sharks Not a bad year. We could have done a little better at times, however winning more games than you lose is good. The boys have improved well during the year. The football being played is great and apart from the top team in the league, our boys could and should have beaten all before them. . Special thanks to a great set of family’s and supporters who followed the boys each week. Jacob Swallow Good steady player. Solid in defence. Good with both feet. Ethan Adams-Cooke Our little trier. Never gave up and improved throughout year. Tyler McNabb Scored 11 goals. Always a threat. Team work improving and showing good attitude to match his skills. Cameron Clark “Shooter” scored a couple of important goals during season. Good at back, however enjoys up front. Daniel Fenton Fast and aggressive. When Daniel was on form, he was always dangerous. Great attitude improvement. Henry Weerden-Sweet Steady player as well. Good at back. Skills improving well. Scored great goal. Sean McCabe Good season by Sean. Always tried as hard as he could. Jack Auld The every ready bunny. Never ever stopped running and tackling. Saved a few goals by back tracking. Truce Reedy New player. Good athlete who played well at back. Needs to work on technique but really keen. Jayden Thompson New as well, good all round player. Never let anybody down. Dylan Hanright Good team player enjoyed playing in goal. Thanks again and have a nice summer. Ben & John. 9th Spiders The season was certainly a season of patches. Some patches the Spiders were unbelievably good and in some patches we were well you get the story. Many of our losing margins were only 1 goal affairs which may have gone either way. All my team have made great progress during the year and I look forward to seeing these kids in years to come playing for Brighton at a premier level. Chelsea was our leading goal scoring with 3. Ella was solid all year at the back with Justin and James. Jan, Carl and Dallas all have a big future with this club in years to come. As for Claudia, Luna and finally Alexander who were our strike force up front, well done and good luck for all your future endeavors in the great game. To Liz and all the parents who were such a supportive group and certainly some of the loudest set of parents I have ever heard. Thank you all for a great season. Bruce 9th Superheroes It was quite a blend at the start of the year. Some Superhero veterans of the past few years coupled with an injection of outside talent – we were set to take on the world. Or at least the Eastern Suburbs. It took a while to get going as the kids were still trying to work out where their best positions were, and where they liked to play and so we had a couple of early poor results but when we gelled, we played really well and every result in the second half of the season was better than when we had played the opposition before. The Superheroes this year were :- Patrick – our athletic goalkeeper, who always came out in the second half and scored some vital goals. Ruby – the tiger tackler of the team, a dynamic ball of energy. Connor – cool under pressure at the back – our safety net. Most Improved Player winner Joseph – Player of the Year for his effort, strength and skill at the back. Bailey – a whirlwind of skill in the middle of the field – always reliable and enthusiastic. Jaime – silky smooth skills from a silky smooth girl – our diamond. Jayden –our halftime man! Gave his everything for a half then played rugby. Still finished as our second highest scorer. CJ – non-stop dynamo with speed, skill, strength and a super shot and an eye for goal. Dylan – Top Scorer for the season. He played some fantastic football this year – a star. This guy will get lots of goals in his career. Georgia – she only played every second game and it showed - we missed her a lot when she wasn't there. A tough tackling gem in midfield. Soloman – came to us late in the season but slotted in like a natural. A great worker. Darragh – our assistant coach who showed how it can be done. Thanks Darragh. I couldn't ask for a nicer bunch of kids to have on a team. Training was always a pleasure and the enthusiasm shown by the Superheroes was a joy to see. We may not have won every game but the games we did were celebrated well and the losses were shrugged off in great spirit. Thanks also to all the parents who were a great help Here's to a better Superhero season next year. Lorcan 10 Boys “The Giants” What a brilliant season, the team were absolutely outstanding and should hold there heads high. As a coach I would love to take the credit for the performance of these children but can't as they all possessed an amazing amount of skills and enthusasium. Right from the first game I new we were in for a great season when the children took the positions on the field with no double ups or arguing, then a brilliant win swell. We won all but three games and I know at least two of those losses were due to moments of lost concentration rather than a better opponent. A very big thanks to Scott Nugent with coaching help ,to the parents and supporters and most of all to the team , Jessica , Cameron H , Cameron N , Jorden K , Jorden O , Kyle , Bradley ,Alex ,Vaughn and Michael hold your heads high ,stand proud and hope to see you all next year Cheers Noel. 11th Grade (A) Team What a great season we have had, winning the 1 grade section 4 by 9 points. The team has done themselves and the New Brighton Club proud, with the whole putting 100% effort. This team went from strength to strength each weekend and training night which finally told on the final season points table. Every win was as a result of a team effort not an individual. Well done again you were a great brunch of kids and I have enjoyed coaching you all. Thanks to the Parents for your support through out the year. It was good to see so many of you each week at the matches and at training nights. One very proud coach Martin Farsight 11th Premiers Not a good year as far as results went with a trip to Ashburton being our only win 1-0. But it was not going to be a year of results it was a development year where we were trying to get a base of players used to playing at this level. Many of the current players will still be eligible for 11th grade premiers next year. Even with the poor results there were some other things that came out of the season. The maturity of the players have grown over the course of the year. William, Holly, Matthew and Moss along with Ben and Blake kept up a pretty strong defence. Our Midfield of Issac, Leon and Oliver tried hard all year. Our Strikers Ali and Thomas didn’t have much success but had a lot of fun. David and Gulago who arrive latter in the season added value to the team but the development of Habib who was our make shift keeper and for me had a great year. Our thanks to the parents who never complain about the poor results for getting their children to and from the games and training Ben + Brian Lennon 12th Grade Boys (Brazil) Coach – Chris Davis Assistant - Jim Clydesdale. Team effort to reach finals equals contributions from all team members on game day & training. Parent Support game day was fantastic. We enjoyed ourselves. Playing the game the world plays. Without doubt one of the best performing teams are new Brighton this season. Only Medbury had the measure of this side and it came down to a golden extra time goal to split them. 13th Grade Boys Picture this..... It’s your first try at coaching football...... You have just spent the last coaching session before the start of the season practicing attacking and defensive corners, free kicks, throw ins etc. ..... The key player in most of these moves is your central midfielder, tall, quick, very skill-full and a football brain to match....... everything seems perfect......Until.... just after the session finishes your key player casually walks over an says “sorry Pete, I cant play on Saturday, I'm away for the weekend." We got battered 9-nil. I was wondering how I was going to pick myself up for the next week let alone the kids! As it happened a few positives came out of the bashing. Taylor Chappell (the only girl in the side) showed that she had more stick ability & pride than most of the boys. Her performance cemented her a central defensive position which was rarely challenged during the rest of the season. Andrew Howie volunteered for half a game in goal, despite several nasty collisions with attacking players, and the mounting score-line he showed the courage to keep on getting up! A quality he continued to show with his outfield play throughout the season. The following week we won 5- nil at home which helped to erase the memories of the previous game. Adam Todd (my key midfielder) netted a hat-trick amidst a great display by everyone, but I didn't give him 'man of the match' because I was still miffed from the previous week! Ha ha! (Sorry Adam) The next few games were quite frustrating, Bradley Burlton was coming on smashing as a goalie, Ryan Wood was staunch in the sweeper role & Mathew Everingham was usually the first name on the team card at left back. Andrew made the wide left position his own and Blain Cassidy was giving his everything on the right flank. Adam and Samuel Proctor were solid in the middle of the park. I could clearly see that the side was coming together. We made chance after chance, but despite the great efforts of Thomas Wookey..... We just couldn’t get the ball in to the back of the net often enough to challenge the league leaders. In fact, I left Tullet Park one morning in absolute disbelief! I honestly felt that we were the better side on the park but we had been beaten 5-nil! We finished the first round in 7th place (out of 10) We lost Kiwook Jung, a Korean lad ,who had to go back home, but gained Jake Laughton, after an unsettled time with the Pegasus premiere setup he decided to come back to the club. Jake is a very good out and out striker. He never passes, he's greedy in front of goal, and he gets paid for every goal he scores (by his dad) so why should he! Good on ya Jake, it’s been a pleasure to coach someone with your skill. Undoubtedly the acquisition of Jake was instrumental to our improved results in the second round. However, Jake wouldn’t have had half the chances if it were not for the continual improvement from all the other players. I would like to think that our parents noticed the improvements ( i know they did ) along with several of our oppositions coaches. Not just the core of experienced players either! There was an extended period when all of the less experienced players were playing out of their skins! Brandon, Jamie Elliot, Jamie Chappell & Keiran McKinley can all be very proud of what you have achieved this season, both personally and from the teams point of view. You made it very difficult to pick the starting line up each week. Thanks for accepting my decisions with dignity. So....to cut a long story short, as they say, We managed to clinch the winners’ trophy on the last day of the season with an emphatic 7-2 victory over Halswell, despite getting tipped up 10 - nil by Western along the way! Thanks to all the parents who came to support us each week, especially Gerry and Peter who have been a great help throughout the season. Finally... All the awards have been nominated, well done everybody who gets one ... That is everybody.. see you all at the prize giving on 16th September. Thanks to all the kids who have given me their support this season, especially Bradley! You're gold mate! Hope to see you all next season. Don’t forget to practice during the summer! Pete McCarthy 14th Grade Boys Well what a season. After winning section 2 quite resoundingly in round 1 and being moved up to section 1 for round 2, we were full of high expectations. Unfortunately after setting our sights on a top 4 spot we had some poor results against the easier teams of the competition left us sitting in 5th spot at the end. All this said and done it was a season of some outstanding performances with a number of players rising to the added challenges that section 1 threw our way. Our defensive line of Theo Thompson, Elliott Evans, Callum Bairds, Reuben Adams-Cooke and Lucky Masalimani proved too difficult for many teams to overcome showing with one of the stronger defensive performances of the round. Managing to keep all of the teams pretty well under control. Mid field performances from Jamie Auld, Luke Gledhill and Pakitae Murray proved them to be very hard for most opposition to contain. These three players put in a 150% effort every week and were consistently of a very high standard. Unfortunately where we had found ourselves able to score almost at will in round 1 with Reuben Adams-Cooke, Elijah Hapi and Luke Gledhill all able to score goals that any senior would be proud to claim as their own. The step up to section 1 in the last half of the season saw the balls in the back of the net happen less frequently than we would have hoped. We were able to set up many opportunities only to see them hit the post or sail slightly high and wide. With a large subs bench some players did not get as much game time as we all would have liked. But this did not detract from the attitude of everyone and as coaches Martin and I found this group to be a fantastic bunch of teens and they gelled themselves into a strong team. Hats off to the players they performed very well and I would like to thank all the parents for their understanding and support over an unusual season. Metalcraft Roofing 13/14th Girls Gold This year we stepped up to the big time, playing on a full sized senior field for the first time, this year we welcomed several new players, these girls could have quite easily have played in an under 12 section, but they showed the ability and enthusiasm to play at the higher level, although this section should have been under 14’s we did on more than one occasion come across girls that were 15 +, in fact the Mid Canterbury team had a couple of girls over 16, and several 15 year olds, so for girls of 11 & 12 playing against these girls, it lifted their game and proved they could play above their age level. Unfortunately we lost more games than we won, but no one team, really dominated us or beat us by big margins, so this bodes well for the 2008 season, which some of the girls are already talking about. Once again the team have wonderful parental and family support, which was very much appreciated by the team, especially the fundraising which helped us purchase our jackets and get them named. A big thank you also goes out to Metalcraft roofing, who sponsored the team, enabling us to purchase new playing shirts, a thank you also goes out to Dave and the team at Eastcare Physio who enabled the girls to get treatment for their injuries and get them back playing even quicker. Congratulations go out to the 4 girls that made the Canterbury Rep teams, Missy who is playing for the Under 14’s tournament at Kaiapoi, and Laura, Ellie & Brodie in the 12th grade tournament in Nelson. So to the girls, Thank you very much for the hard effort you have put in at training, (training 2 nights a week, especially some of those cold frosty Monday nights) the willingness to listen and learn and enjoy playing the game. To all that supported this team, thank you very much, because at times you witnessed some very entertaining football. Steve Ager 13/14 Girls Yellow Well what a season for the mighty Yellow Team. They finished first equal on the table with 24 points, losing on goal difference to the New Brighton Black team. We played nine games, won 8, including a rather triumphant win over the New Brighton Black team, conceding one loss to Oxford. Our most convincing win was in the last game of the season against Avon, we were up only one nil at half time, to come back in the second half and take the game a whopping 9 -1. As the Coach, I am nothing but proud of the girls. They have put in a consistent attendance and effort at training's. The focus this year has been on getting the basics right, and learning to work well as a unit. The girls have more than exceeded my expectations. Coaching this team has been a rewarding experience. The strength of the team has been built up from the goal box forward, starting with Grace Jones our ace goal keeper. Grace was new to this position at the start of the year and has developed into a competent young keeper. Her positive "can do attitude" and natural ability have seen her develop a strong command of this role. New comer Brooke Ison started at sweeper each week proving to be a solid and reliable defender and is clearly become very comfortable in this position. Kiri and Linda our left and right backs have both been invaluable to our defence. Anna Poulter has been a very solid performer at centre back, demonstrating a good grasp on this position, especially on attack. Our mid field has developed in both skill and pace with Kerryn and Rach making great runs up the wing and successfully crossing the ball. Both girls have scored some cracking goals. Ash, Shenae and Summer have both come ahead in leaps and bounds with their strength and confidence. Ash is one of the few girls in this league not afraid to get up and head the ball. Summer managed to put away to fantastic shots on goal in the last game of the season, it was a joy to see. Tahlia has also grown in strength and taken up residence in our team as the corner taker. Our youngest star Nicky has also put in some very solid performances and has shown great adaptability when asked to play in a number of positions. She is a very resilient player. Sharian has shown great improvement throughout the season and has scored some superb goals. Our Captain and super speedy striker Shannon has been the top goal scorer for the season, proving to be unstoppable, particularly in a one on one. The team have grown in strength, speed, agility and come together well as a unit. Finishing second in the league on goal difference is a stellar achievement. I certainly have my eye on a couple of the girls as up and coming talent for New Brighton. Well done girls and I look forward to seeing you all again next season. A big thanks to Lyndal our manager, Tremane for refereeing each week and all of the parents and supporters, it simply can't happen without your support! Thank you and see you all next year Mel 13/14th Girls Black Under 14 Girls Black Team The start of the season we found ourselves in the wrong division and completely out of our depth, especially for a team of girls that were either new to the game or new to the club, the team had been entered into the Girls under 16, with only 3 girls being either 15 or 16, the rest of the girls being only 13 or 14. The girls were very keen and enthusiastic but unfortunately after only 2 or 3 games it was obvious that we were out of our depth, after being on the wrong end of some very high scoring matches, so with the help of Mainland Football, the team was regraded with age dispensations for the couple of girls who were too old and come down to Under 14 section two, It was the best thing we could have done for this team, because after only picking up one draw in the first round, the girls were starting to win, and play good football at the same time, in fact the second half of the season was so good that the team only lost one game (1-0 to the Brighton Yellow team) and went on to win the league on goal difference. The effort, determination & commitment put in by this team made the job of the coach very easy, so to all the player and supporters of the team, thanks for a very enjoyable season. Steve Ager I would personally like to thank my 2007 committee. Lyndal Sloan who has been a most worthy partner in crime this season. Sometimes during this season I think I have talk more to Lyndal than my own wife, such is the life of a busy junior football club. Nadene Evans. Without Nadene to keep the club finances going we wouldn’t have a football club. She has done a great job over the season is offend overlooked but believe me I am very thankful to having someone like Nadene on the team. Finally to Rachael Barrie who I guess is the newbie on the team. Thank you for all your help this year. Rachael did a great job with the chocolates this year and without doubt it was the most successful fund raising effort done at New Brighton for some time. Thank you to Steve and Tracey Ager who offend came to our rescue with all sorts of help and assistance this season. |
